DiskCheckup can help you monitor your disk´s SMART attributes to prevent possible failures. Monitoring SMART (Self-Monitoring Analysis and Reporting Technology) allows you to know which areas are likely to fail in the near future. Thus, this application can provide you with such data as spin-up time, disk temperature, and predicted TEC date, which are critical in assessing a disk’s health status.
Besides automatic control of SMART attributes, the application can also run two disk self-tests: short and extended, which allows performing failure diagnostics. In addition, it can provide you with additional information about your disk, including serial number, model number, disk geometry and firmware revision. The program supports various disk types and brands, including RAID units, provided they are configured as dynamic disks on Windows. Logically, the disk should support SMART or otherwise the program cannot access the attributes. Fortunately, most modern disk support SMART.
DiskCheckup is undoubtedly a very useful application. It is at the same time quite easy to use. One of its advantages is that it can send you alert email messages when a given SMART attribute indicates that the disk is not working properly. Advanced users can also use the application from the command line, which is an additional asset.
